Geo targeting logic

this document outlines the updated functionality for geographical targeting in the new cadent platform the method for combining multiple targeting selections has been streamlined to provide a more intuitive and powerful workflow the legacy platform and/or logic in the previous platform, when you selected multiple geographical targets (such as states, cities, dmas, or zip codes), you had the option to choose between and and or logic or logic targeted areas that met any of the selected criteria (e g , state a or state b) and logic targeted areas that met all of the selected criteria simultaneously (e g , dma x and state a) this and logic was often used to narrow down a larger area for example, to target only the portion of a dma that falls within a specific state, you would have used and logic the new cadent platform positive and negative targeting the new platform simplifies this process by removing the manual selection between and and or logic instead, the logic is determined by whether you are including or excluding a location positive targeting (inclusion) all positively targeted locations are combined using or logic this means the system targets any of the areas you have selected negative targeting (exclusion) all negatively targeted locations are combined with your positive targets using and not logic this allows you to refine your positively targeted areas by excluding specific locations practical examples here’s how you can achieve the same targeting outcomes in the new platform, with a few common scenarios scenario 1 targeting a portion of a dma goal target the part of a dma that spans two states, but only in one of those states (e g , target the "chattanooga" dma, but only the part in georgia excluding the purple areas in tennessee) \dsp\ \method\ legacy select the chattanooga dma select the georgia state apply and logic ad manager positively target the "chattanooga" dma negatively target the "tennessee" state (and any other states the dma falls into that you wish to exclude) result the campaign will only target the geographical area that is within the "chattanooga" dma and not in the other states, effectively isolating the georgia portion scenario 2 targeting a zip code that spans multiple cities goal target a zip code that falls into two cities, but only deliver ads to one of them \dsp\ \method\ legacy select the zip code select the desired city apply and logic ad manager positively target the zip code negatively target the city you wish to exclude result the campaign will target the area within the selected zip code and not within the excluded city
