a taxonomy defines the segments and elements of a data file that is received in audience manager it tells cadent's system how to interpret the information contained in the dataset file by connecting taxonomies to datasets, the system is able to understand and present the segments and categories that make up the dataset correctly in the audience builder when you load a dataset that contains multiple segments, a taxonomy is needed to correctly identify those segments without a taxonomy, a dataset with multiple segments can be hard to locate and manage when trying to create an audience the system assigns the segment ids as the segment names you can use a taxonomy to identify specific audience segments which have sensitivity information associated that may link them to privacy laws note the application only accepts data files with segment ids made up of alphanumeric characters and dashes the segment id cannot exceed 125 characters to create a taxonomy, complete the following steps on the navigation menu, click setup at taxonomy(s) , click +add new add taxonomy displays on the right side of the page to use the express builder, select express builder express builder is ideal for datasets that do not require onloading categories enter the segment id, segment name, and cpm (cost per thousand) for each segment in the file to add each segment, click add segment when you have entered all the segment information, click save the new taxonomy displays in the taxonomy(s) table to upload a taxonomy, click upload this is helpful if you plan to upload a file from your local machine at select connection , select the location of the file from the drop down list at select file , navigate to the file you want to upload at file format options , select one of the following paste a sample record paste the sample record in the sample record field build a file format you must enter the total number of columns of the file at field separator , select the type of field delimiter contained in the file at header record , select yes if the file contains headers and no if it doesn't for each segment contained in the file, you must enter the following segment id uniquie id for each segment parent id the root segment for datasets with segments in related categories indicates the group that the segment falls under segment name used by the data partner to describe the segment, for example, football fans description the description displays in the audience builder when you hover the cursor over the segment id in the selector provides more detail than the segment name cpm price of the segment if there is no cost, enter 0 or leave it blank buyable y indicates a buyable segment and n indicates that it is not adding sensitivity information some audience segments contain information that may be subject to consumer privacy laws taxonomies provide a way for you to add an indicator to appear with a segment if this may be the case in the match field(s) section, select a segment id, segment name, and cpm (or select an exisitng taxonomy that contains the segment details you want) if necessary, click add another match field(s) and select is sensitive at is sensitive , select yes at sensitivity type , make a selection from the drop down sensitivity types are defined by cadent at sub category , make a selection from the drop down a sub category is not required when you have entered all the segment information, click save the new taxonomy displays in the taxonomy(s) table taxonomy example following is an example of a taxonomy from a used car dealership the taxonomy is in a csv format note the segment id must be 127 alphanumeric characters or less with no special characters except for an underscore “ ” examples of acceptable segment id formatting segment id,segment name, description ford owner, ford, purchased a ford vehicle toyota owner, toyota, purchased a toyota vehicle bmw owner, bmw, purchased a bmw vehicle \segment id (required)\ \segment name (required)\ \description (optional)\ ford owner ford purchased a ford vehicle toyota owner toyota purchased a toyota vehicle bmw owner bmw purchased a bmw vehicle
